Q: Who are you?
A:
My name is Molly :-) I’m a freelance make up artist from Iowa, cosmetic chemist student, and licensed cosmetologist.

Q: Why didn’t my comment get approved?
A:
I do not approve comments of people trying to sell a cosmetic or hair product — if your comment came across that way, I probably deleted it.  I pay for this blog, and unless you want to pay for advertising space, I’m not going to let you do so.

Q: I want you to review ______ product, will you?
A:
I would love to take inquiries for products to review, in order to do so please e-mail me at molly.loretta@gmail.com.  If you’re a company with a product that you would like to send me for review, it would be helpful if you would e-mail me as well.  Please note I will never lie about how I feel about a particular product.  I’ll state why I do or don’t like the product, which either way is helpful to my readers, and the company selling it if they’re ever in the mood to reformulate and better their products.  I don’t like to sell things I don’t love.

Q: What type of skincare do you use?
A:
I enjoy using:
Make-Up Remover
— Baby oil (mineral oil), and for waterproof make up Lancome Bificil eye make up remover is fabulous.
Exfoliate — St Ives Apricot Scrub — I know a lot of people say how harsh it is, but really I don’t scrub hard, and it’s the only thing that keeps the dead flakes off my face; and I’ve tried a lot of high-end scrubs!  Nothing else works for me.  Plus, it’s so affordable!
Cleanser
–  Bioelements Moisture Positive Cleanser
Toner
— Nada.  I don’t think toner is necessary.  Cosmetologists, don’t yell at me.  I’m a cosmo too!  Problem is is that my skin is far too sensitive, and many toners contain incredibly irritating ingredients.  Bioelements has a wonderful Calmitude spray however.
Moisturizer
Bioelements Calmitude Moisturizer.

Q: Where did you learn to do hair/make up?
A:
Capri Cosmetology school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  However, for my cosmetic skills I’ve learned most by practice, practice, practice!  I don’t think school for cosmetics is necessary as long as you hone your skills the best you can.

Q: What type of hair color do you use/recommend?
A:
I personally am only a fan of professional hair color.  I use Pravana and Joico for nearly everything; they have such a wide array of colors it’s easy to find something for everyone through them.

Q: Why don’t you recommend box color?
A:
Here is a blog I wrote explaining this dilemma I have with box color: Why use professional haircolor?

Q: What kind of cosmetics do you use?
A:
I use so many different things, but I’ll happily share my basics!
Foundation –
Face Atelier Ultra Foundation.  Otherwise, I like L’Oreal True Match if I run out of the FA and have forgotten to order more.   Both of these I find look like skin, and wear really well throughout the day.
Concealer –
I almost never use it, to be honest.
PowderUrban Decay De-Slick Matifying Powder.
Blush/Bronzer — Nixie Gem eyeshadow, or Nixie bronzers.
Eyeliner — L’Oreal HIP Cream Liner, and for pencil Urban Decay 24/7 (nothing works better than these, they’re worth the money!).
Mascara
— L’Oreal Voluminous in waterproof.
Eyeshadow
— Really, whatever has the color I want for that purpose, but Nixie, Ben Nye, Kryolan and Urban Decay are my automatic go-tos :-)
Eyeshadow base —
Urban Decay’s Primer Potion.  Nothing beats this in my opinion.
Eyebrows
— Maybelline
Lipcolor — It varies, but most often I wear:

  • Rimmel London Red Hot lipstick for Red.
  • For a deeper red, Nixie matte lipstick in Vamp.
  • My pink is always Urban Decay Lip Envy lip stain in Envious.
  • My natural color is either Nixie matte lipstick in Bourgeois, or Victoria Secret matte lipstick in Femme.

Lipgloss — L’Oreal Color Juice lipgloss (particularly bubble gum and watermelon crush) or Lancome Juicy Tubes.  Nixie and NYX Lipgloss is also superb!
Lipliner
— Whatever is cheap and works.  Rimmel Exaggerate lipliners are great.

Q: Do I have to use the same products you do in your tutorials?
A:
No!  You can use similar colors, or create the same look using all different colors for a fun variation (which I would love to see, so please e-mail me pictures!).  There is a plethora of brands out there, and I know coming from Iowa, not all brands are available everywhere.  Use what works for you!

Q: Did you get the item you reviewed/used in tutorial for free?
A: Any items I received for free from a company I will first review before using in tutorials, and I will disclose in the review whether or not I received it for free.  Regardless, I don’t do paid reviews, and I won’t use anything in a tutorial I don’t like.  Please also keep in mind, as a professional cosmetologist I do receive a discount on most beauty products I purchase myself from various companies.  This is something I do have to apply for and provide my professional cosmetology license, business card, and other required credentials, and I do use this to my advantage when purchasing products.

Q: Where else can I find you on the internet?
A:
